Performance Driving Experience (PDE) is owned and operated by Dave Auer formerly of Hooked on Driving. For the last six years he has been doing HPDE High Performance Driving events at Road Atlanta, Roebling Road
Raceway, Atlanta Motorsports Park, Barber Motorsports Park, etc. Dave started his racing career in the Skip Barber Series in Formula Fords, then onto F2000 in Canada and currently competing in Spec Racer Fords at the SCCA National Championship Runoffs at Daytona International Speedway. He has been involved in motorsports racing activities since 1984 and has been on the podium numerous times. He enjoys sharing his passion for teaching drivers how to drive a race track along with being safe and having fun with No wheel to wheel racing. Knowing the needs and wants of drivers is key to having a successful operation. It may be a one time event on one’s bucket list, enjoying time after time the joy of being on a race track, to those that may want to pursue racing or to test and tune. PDE provides the platform with a primary focus on providing high performance driver education in a controlled environment of a race course – with NO competition or training for competition.
PDE is here to provide our group of drivers with the safest and friendliest atmosphere possible along with a staff of individuals who work together to make our program run flawless. Our staff has an extensive amount of experience in motorsports as well, and we are recognized by the entire Southeast Region track community for bringing the best track days possible. We provide a “High Performance Driving Experience” for those individuals who want to bring their cars out for a day of safe fun or to test and tune!. Our goal is to be able to let you drive at our events in a controlled environment, while providing plenty of driving time. Our driving instructors are on hand for all new drivers.
We serve ice cold bottled water and days end refreshments free of charge. Our #1 goal is safety followed by fun and learning and are very proud of our safety record.
Garry’s first real event was at an autocross hosted by the Central Florida Region of SCCA years back. He went on to win the novice class his first time out and was truly addicted at that point. He then moved onto Time Trials on the race track and excelled. Then went to driver’s school for SCCA club racing and was given his Competition SCCA License.
After some time, his first year back, he went back to auto crossing and won the regional C Stock Championship and started coaching some of his competitors to make them faster. He then took over the SCCA Solo ll program and ran it for several years in the Central Florida Region. As an instructor there he got to drive a variety of cars. Being able to jump in an unfamiliar car and go fast was quite natural for Garry and has paid off in instructing people in their cars.
Garry started coaching track days when a friend asked him to help him at Sebring. For the last five years he has been coaching with Dave Auer in the Southern States Region both originally with Hooked on Driving and now with PDE. Garry says “I drive my 99 Miata with only suspension mods to the track, run it all day and then drive it home. My favorite saying is: It’s more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow. I find it really rewarding to see people improve and get more comfortable on track at speed and then graduate to the Intermediate Solo group. I help them learn how to have “fun” with their car on a race track!”
